Malaysian Bird

Temminck Sunbird

A small slim Sunbird at 11 cm.  This a very colorful bird in bright red. A bird of Sumatra and Borneo Island, this lowland bird is hardly seen. It prefers open location in forest edge but moves about in very swift manner. It is so rarely encountered that I would not comment much on this bird.

Size & diagnostic markings:- The Temminck's Sunbird with its longer tail is at 12 cm. The bird is almost scarlet in its upper part except it wings are brown. the under part is light gray. The iridescent part on this bird would be the same as the Plain Sunbird, a patch of dark green in the fore crown. In this picture the green tiny patch is hardly visible

Habitats & preferences:- This is a lowland forest bird visiting open areas and forest edge. It prefer scrubs country where the trees are low and sparse.

In Malaysia, where can the bird be found:- These are pictures I have taken in Air Itam Dam Penang. the bird was seen in Perdik but in the upper storey where the vegetation were sparse.
